1. Introduction
In modern society, with the rapid development of science and technology and the increasingly frequent cultural exchanges, it is facing the disappearance and loss of many cultures. The importance of inheriting traditional elements cannot be ignored. As an important part of cultural inheritance, the inheritance and innovation of traditional elements in modern clothing can not only maintain cultural diversity but also add new ideas, uniqueness, and classical beauty to modern design. The transmission of traditional elements helps to maintain cultural diversity. Through the inheritance of traditional elements, these unique cultural beliefs and values can be preserved and transmitted, so that various cultures can maintain certain differences and diversity. This can not only enrich people's aesthetic appreciation but also promote cultural mutual understanding and exchange. At the same time, the introduction of traditional elements can inject new vitality and creativity into modern clothing. By integrating traditional elements into modern clothing, we can break through the shackles of tradition and create clothes that are both traditional and fashionable. This can not only meet people's needs for uniqueness and national feelings but also promote the innovation and development of the fashion industry. Therefore, how to inherit the national culture, show the regional characteristics and historical traditions of the nation, convey the spiritual strength and aesthetic characteristics of the nation to the world, be accepted and recognized by the world, grasp the scale of "harmony without difference," and keep up with the pace of the times is the problem that designers need to think about [1].
2. A combination of traditional elements and modern clothing
Traditional culture refers to the cultural system formed by a nation or region in the course of long-term historical development and passed down from generation. Traditional culture is the spiritual wealth of a nation, carrying the nation's historical memory, cultural identity, and spiritual pursuit [2]. Traditional culture has unique characteristics and features. Different ethnic groups have different traditional cultures, which usually include religion, values, art forms, customs, and traditions. Traditional culture is the precipitation of local history and the common cultural tradition of a nation or region, which contains rich historical and cultural information. At the same time, it reflects the collective thinking mode, value concept, and aesthetic concept.
Historical culture is an important part of traditional elements. Each country and region has its history and culture, and the classic symbols and elements in these cultures can also become a source of inspiration for clothing design. For example, Chinese classic elements such as dragons and phoenixes often appear in modern clothing, making clothing more unique in style and charm.
The content of traditional elements is rich and diverse, which embodies people's wisdom and creativity. In modern clothing design, the combination of traditional and modern elements can not only highlight the cultural characteristics of local clothing, but also meet people's pursuit of personality and fashion, and play an important role in promoting local culture and enhancing national feelings.
2.1. Extraction of traditional elements
Before applying traditional elements to modern clothing, it is necessary to extract traditional elements first to better adapt to the needs and aesthetics of modern society. Imitation and refining traditional elements are two of the most common techniques in modern fashion design. Through detail restoration, material conversion, and design simplification, designers skillfully apply these elements to modern fashion design, creating a unique and rich sense of fashion design, and traditional art shows it to more consumers [3]. The extraction of traditional elements is a complicated task to respect traditional culture and conform to the trend of The Times. First of all, the extraction of traditional elements should start from the foundation of traditional culture. Traditional elements are called traditions because they are derived from history and inheritance in a specific cultural context. Therefore, when extracting traditional elements, it is necessary to deeply study the background of traditional culture and its intrinsic meaning to ensure an accurate and comprehensive understanding of it. For example, Chinese traditional embroidery art can be extracted as an excellent traditional element, which not only represents the inheritance of handicrafts for many years but also reflects the aesthetic values in Chinese culture. Secondly, the extraction of traditional elements should consider the needs of modern fashion trends. The needs of clothing in modern society are different from those in traditional times, so when extracting traditional elements, it is necessary to combine them with modern aesthetics and functions. In addition, the extraction of traditional elements also needs to take into account the modernization of clothing materials and processes. With the progress of science and technology, the material and production processes of modern clothing have undergone great changes. Therefore, when extracting traditional elements, it is necessary to use modern materials and processes to make traditional elements better integrated into modern clothing. For example, the use of high-tech fiber materials can add breathable, comfortable, waterproof, and other functions to the traditional Hanfu, making it more adaptable to the needs of modern life.
In summary, the extraction of traditional elements is an important part of combining traditional culture with modern fashion. Through an in-depth study of the background and connotation of traditional culture, combined with the needs and aesthetics of modern society, the modern treatment of materials and processes can extract traditional elements and skillfully integrate them into modern clothing, to realize the inheritance and innovation of traditional elements. This extraction process not only helps to protect and inherit traditional culture but also infuses modern clothing with unique cultural charm.
2.2. Innovation of traditional elements
In modern clothing design, the innovation of traditional elements is an inevitable trend. The inheritance of traditional elements is a respect for history and culture, while the innovation of traditional elements is the pursuit and creation of modern fashion. In modern society, people's demand for clothing is not only to meet the basic protection and decoration functions but also to express personality, show identity, and pursue fashion through clothing.
Innovation is the key to the continuation and development of traditional elements in modern clothing. The extraction of traditional elements is the basis of innovation. Through in-depth research and understanding of traditional elements, we can find the essence and apply it. For example, traditional embroidery is an important part of traditional Chinese culture, and it has rich inspiration for modern clothing design. Through the extraction and redesign of embroidery patterns, designers integrate traditional elements with modern clothing to create unique pieces that combine classical and fashion. This innovation not only allows traditional elements to be inherited but also infuses them into modern fashion trends.
The innovation of traditional elements also needs to adapt to the needs and aesthetic concepts of modern society. Modern people's aesthetic pursuit of clothing is constantly changing, they pursue personalized design and unique fabric materials. Therefore, the innovation of traditional elements needs to combine the aesthetic trend of modern society, adopt new materials and processes, and give them new forms of expression based on retaining the characteristics of traditional elements. For example, increasing numbers of designers at home and abroad are drawing design inspiration from traditional Chinese culture for haute couture and ready-to-wear design [4].
However, traditional process modernization also faces some difficulties in the process of innovation. On the one hand, the techniques and processes of traditional crafts need to be reformed and adjusted to meet the requirements of modernization. The complexity and time-consuming nature of traditional processes limit their application in modern clothing manufacturing, and designers need to constantly seek innovative processes and technologies to solve these problems. On the other hand, the inheritance of traditional crafts is faced with the problem of technical inheritance. Many traditional craft skills have been gradually lost, and the masters of traditional crafts are faced with the problem of successors. Therefore, the innovation of traditional elements not only requires the efforts of designers but also needs the attention and support of all sectors of society to ensure the inheritance and development of traditional crafts.
To sum up, the innovation of traditional elements in modern clothing is the combination of inheritance and fashion and is the transmission and development of the beauty of traditional culture. Through the extraction and innovation of traditional elements, the modernization of traditional processes can be solved, and at the same time, new vitality and creativity are injected into modern clothing design. The combination of traditional elements and modern clothing is not only an artistic and design challenge but also a responsibility and commitment to cultural inheritance. Only by constantly promoting innovation can traditional elements be revitalized and charming in modern clothing.
In short, the extraction of traditional elements is an important part of combining traditional culture with modern fashion.
3. The dilemma faced by the modernization of traditional craft
In the process of combining traditional elements with modern clothing, the modernization development of traditional craft is facing some difficulties. Traditional craft is an important carrier rich in cultural inheritance, but with the change of times, traditional craft is facing the risk of being forgotten and eliminated. The impact of modernization and the rapid development of the fashion industry has brought a series of challenges to the inheritance and innovation of traditional crafts. First of all, the inheritance of traditional craftsmanship is facing difficulties. With the deepening of craft technology, the inheritance of many traditional skills is threatened. Traditional crafts need to be learned and honed for a long time, but modern society focuses on efficiency and speed, and people increasingly lack the patience and interest in learning traditional crafts. For example, traditional embroidery works have very high requirements for patterns and modeling, and the embroidery style and embroidery content are all developed around the theme, with ingenious conception, extensive themes, and complete plots. Ancient embroidery works contain many auspicious flowers and animals, and moire patterns, showing the integrity of the composition of traditional embroidery art. Secondly, the traditional embroidery craft requires embroidery craftsmen to complete every detail patiently and carefully, which has a very high technical content and artistic value. Both the fluency of the lines and the sense of the layers of color can reach the level that is difficult to achieve mechanically, so it can only be completed by hand [5]. However, many traditional craft masters are old, and successors are rare. At present, the pace of modern life is accelerating, and the awareness of the young generation of traditional handicraft skills is declining, leading to the rupture of the inheritance of traditional embroidery skills. In today's rapidly developing society, young people pay more attention to practicality and efficiency, and have little time and energy to study a skill that requires long-term practice to master [6]. This makes it difficult to pass on traditional craftsmanship. At the same time, the development of modern science and technology has made people pay special attention to efficient and standardized production methods, which makes some traditional processes cumbersome and complex and difficult to adapt to the needs of modern industrialization. Secondly, the integration of traditional crafts into modern clothing is also facing the dilemma of market competition pressure. With the development of globalization, international brands and mass-produced clothing dominate the market. These brands tend to be favored by consumers because they offer fashionable, novel, and cosmopolitan clothing. In contrast, the development of traditional crafts emphasizes the integration of history, culture, and art, which makes traditional crafts clothing unable to compete with mass brands in the market. Traditional craft clothing has a long production cycle and high price, which limits its competitiveness in the market. This requires the traditional craft to find innovative marketing methods while maintaining its uniqueness to increase its competitiveness in the modern clothing market [7]. In addition, the scale and efficiency of traditional process production are also one of the factors troubling the modernization of traditional processes. Traditional production methods are often hand-made, while modern industrial production pays more attention to efficiency and scale. This makes the traditional process face difficulties in mass production and delivery time. The traditional process has a long production cycle and high cost, which makes it difficult to meet the short cycle and large volume needs of the modern fashion industry. Therefore, the modernization of traditional processes needs to consider changes in production methods and the application of new technologies to improve production efficiency and reduce costs.
To sum up, the modernization of traditional crafts is facing some difficulties. The problem of skill inheritance, the pressure of market competition, and the limitation of scale efficiency all make the inheritance and innovation of traditional craft in modern clothing a certain challenge. To protect and develop traditional crafts in the process of inheritance and innovation, it is necessary to cultivate the interest and enthusiasm of the young generation, explore new marketing methods, and apply new technologies so that traditional crafts can be truly integrated into modern clothing and realize the organic combination of tradition and modernity. Only in this way can traditional elements play a greater influence on modern clothing and continue to inherit and innovate.
4. Conclusion
With the changing of times, modern clothing has entered a new era. People not only pay attention to the practicality of clothing, but also pay more attention to the aesthetic attributes and artistic value of clothing. There is no doubt that modern clothing design is the embodiment of modern people's pursuit of beauty. The value of a successful modern clothing commodity is determined by the aesthetic value shown by it. In modern thinking, clothing is no longer an ordinary object that surrounds the body, and clothing has been closely connected with aesthetic art [8]. The application of traditional clothing elements in modern clothing art design can enhance the artistic beauty and cultural attributes of clothing, enhance the value of clothing, and be more conducive to the inheritance of traditional national culture.
