Published on August 2024The eighteenth century marked the advent of a true Chinese exoticism, its growing interest in the search for universal values characterized the spirit and approach of the Enlightenment that swept France. Philosophers began to find foreign models to remedy this ailing country and in Voltaire’s eyes, China could be an ideal example. This study analyzes the image of China from the pen of Voltaire, mainly in The Princess of Babylon and also in his other works as a complement. It highlights Voltaire’s great interest in Chinese politics, culture and civilization. The return to the legendary and authentic China that Voltaire describes includes a new conception of history, a morality without religious imperatives, a harmonious vision of the state that he calls enlightened despotism.
This paper delves into the theoretical foundation and practical implementation of ideological and political education (IPE) within college English classrooms. Initially, it defines IPE and highlights its critical role in the fundamental educational task of cultivating virtue and character. The paper then outlines the specific requirements and principles necessary for integrating IPE into college English courses. The study underscores that beyond enhancing students' language proficiency, college English courses should also foster students' social responsibility, academic integrity, and scientific ethics through implicit teaching methods. By improving teachers' IPE teaching capabilities, deeply integrating IPE elements into course content, and utilizing modern information technology to innovate teaching methods, the paper proposes effective strategies to achieve IPE goals. The integration of IPE in college English courses holds substantial theoretical and practical importance, particularly in the context of the new era, and it actively promotes higher education teaching reform. This comprehensive approach ensures that students not only gain linguistic skills but also develop a strong ethical foundation and a sense of social responsibility, thereby aligning with the broader educational objectives of fostering well-rounded individuals.
This paper analyzes the practice of participatory journalism on social media platforms based on the Public Sphere Theory. It explores the deficiencies of participatory journalism on social media platforms in conjunction with the connotations of the public sphere. The research concludes that the main types of participatory journalism on social media platforms include participatory news on sudden public events, event discovery-based participatory journalism, commentary-based participatory journalism, and participatory journalism on everyday events. The phenomenon of participatory journalism on social media platforms undoubtedly breaks the dominating control of professional media over the public sphere. However, the development of participatory journalism also faces many challenges, such as widening participation gaps, difficulty in controlling participation topics, and uncertainties among participants. In the new media ecosystem, how to construct a healthy media landscape and effectively leverage public power remains to be pondered.
As the core carrier of culture, language directly reflects the cultural characteristics and structures of its country. Given the geographical proximity of Korea and China and their shared Confucian cultural traditions, the languages of these two nations exhibit significant connections and comparable features. This paper delves into the similarities and unique aspects of honorifics in Chinese and Korean. By exploring the origins of honorifics in both languages, it conducts an in-depth comparative analysis to reveal their unique value in the transmission of linguistic civilization.
Taking the Yangling demonstration area as the research object, this paper analyzes the local climate and combines the micro-environmental characteristics of rooftop gardens in Yangling to explore the principles of plant configuration in rooftop gardens. It selects suitable plants for rooftop gardens and investigates their ecological benefits in improving the urban heat island effect, reducing rainwater accumulation, and purifying the air, providing a reference for the construction and management of rooftop gardens in the Guanzhong region.
As a city where East meets West, Macau has a rich historical and cultural heritage, and its music culture, based on its historical background, has a long history of development, with colourful and diverse genres. However, as a tourist city, the public’s understanding of Macau is basically confined to the gaming industry. The dissemination of its music is faced with the problems of small scope of dissemination and lack of popularity, etc. Therefore, how to better inherit and protect the music culture of Macau? Therefore, how to better pass on and protect Macau’s local culture has become an issue of wide concern to the Macau society nowadays. With the development of the Internet and the changing needs of the public, interactive design came into being, the interactivity of this design can provide a better user experience and increase the attractiveness of the project. As a popular way of travelling nowadays, city walking can make the public feel the city culture better. This design study will conduct fieldwork research on Macao’s music culture through fieldwork method, literature research method and data collection method, analyse the form of its integration with urban micro-tourism, and finally design it interactively. In this way, the dissemination of Macau’s music culture will be increased and the cultural participation of the public will be strengthened. In addition, the form of city walk can attract tourists of all ages, which is a good guide for the dissemination of Macau’s music culture. Moreover, this design can provide the public with a vivid understanding of Macau’s music culture, enhance Macau’s cultural attractiveness, promote socialisation and interaction in the city, and improve the public’s physical and mental health and quality of life. Therefore, this study aims to provide methodological ideas for the communication strategy of Macau’s music culture and to provide innovative perspectives for the inheritance of Macau’s excellent traditional culture.
This article conducts a comprehensive search and analysis of literature from the "China National Knowledge Infrastructure" (CNKI) over the past decade focusing on "Nepal." It discusses the main content, key values, and practical applications of research on Nepal. By summarizing and reviewing the existing literature, this paper highlights achievements, identifies problems in past research, innovates cross-disciplinary perspectives related to Nepal, and proposes future research directions.
With the accelerated exchange of different civilizations in the context of globalization, the overseas dissemination of Chinese classic literature is also playing an increasingly important role in shaping national cultural confidence. Since the beginning of the 21st century, cultural exchanges between China and Russia have become increasingly close, and the two countries have also invested key attention in the relationship between Russian literature and Chinese literature. In the past, research on the Russian translation of Chinese literature was mostly limited to the field of translation and cultural customs, while there was a lack of attention to the phenomenon of Chinese literature entering the creation of Russian writers. This leads to a lack of concrete and clear experience and theory in exploring the overseas dissemination of Chinese classic literature and promoting mutual learning and learning among different civilizations in the new situation of cultural exchange. Liaozhai Zhiyi represents the highest achievement of ancient Chinese classical short stories and is also an outstanding representative of Chinese supernatural and legendary novels. This article intends to provide an overview of the dissemination process of Pu Songling's " LiaoZhai ZhiYi " in 20th century Russia from a historical perspective, using a literature review method; On this basis, comprehensively accepting theories, comparative literary principles, etc., this study analyzes the influence of "LiaoZhai ZhiYi" on contemporary Russian literature in the 20th century, as well as the reasons and motivations behind this phenomenon. Research has found that since the beginning of the 20th century, the motivation to seek a national way out and reshape national values has driven Russia to turn its attention to China, and the characteristics of legendary supernatural novels have garnered a lot of attention; As a result, "LiaoZhai ZhiYi" formed a continuous and tumultuous process of dissemination in Russia, with Alexeyev's translation having the greatest impact; On this basis, 20th century Russian literature has formed a phenomenon of displacement or displacement in terms of characters, cultural symbols, philosophical ideas, etc., providing specific references for mutual learning and mutual learning between different cultures.
In the Yuan Dynasty, common people referred to those living at the lower strata of society, including the proletariat or small producers. Yuan Dynasty dramas depicted numerous images of common people. This paper begins with the image of “common people” and takes the Yuan Dynasty southern drama The Lute as its text. It deeply analyzes the fate trajectory of Cai Bojie and Zhao Wuniang, who represent common people in feudal society, exploring the reasons behind such tragic fates. Furthermore, it excavates the enduring literary value and contemporary significance of The Lute. The Lute not only reflects society and the era from a literary and artistic perspective but also perceives the tragic fate of common people during the feudal period. Indirectly, it demonstrates the significant contribution of traditional Chinese opera to the reconstruction of cultural concepts and moral-ethical notions.
Parasite is a South Korean movie that was released in 2019. The film was critically acclaimed and went on to win several awards internationally upon its release, including an Academy Award for Best Picture, making it the first Asian film to do so. The film director, Bong Joon-ho, adds a unique charm to the film through his skillful use of metaphorical techniques, which help to unravel the movie’s more profound meaning and theme: the class divide between the rich and the poor in South Korea. This paper will focus on analyzing the camera work and the metaphorical meaning of key scenes and symbols. Specifically, the cinematography in the movie will be discussed in regard to the camera angles and movements. The analysis will focus on two spatial scenes of “Semi-basement” and “Villa,” as well as the scene of “Ladder”, which will be assessed regarding their significance as symbols and metaphors.
